26 July 2007 was a momentous day for EWI Academy as it was the first time the academy held its Graduation Ceremony since its birth in year 2000. The day marked the culmination of months of learning, training and practice before the 82 graduands attained the internationally recognised CIDESCO (Comite International DEsthetique Et De Cosmetologie) Beauty Therapy Diploma from Switzerland or the CIBTAC (Confederation of International Beauty Therapy and Cosmetology) Aesthetics Treatment Diploma from the United Kingdom. In addition the graduands also received the EWI Aesthetics Treatments Diploma and EWI Beauty Therapy Certificate. It was indeed a proud moment for the more than 150 persons present comprising graduands, their families and loved ones.
The ceremony, which was held in EWI Academy at Bukit Jelutong, Shah Alam, Selangor Darul Ehsan, was filled with pomp and pageantry. It began with the grand entrance of all the graduands into the auditorium, dressed in graduate robes and mortar board. This was followed by the entrance of the academic procession led by the visiting guest of honour, Ms Adrienne G. Hughes from CIDESCO International, Ms Melissa M. Chen, founder of EIG group and Principal of EWI Academy and the tutors.
The first event was fittingly the EWI Milestones, a presentation on the transformation of the academy from a small school in a shoplot in Damansara Jaya, Selangor to its present premise in Wisma EIG with well-equipped facilities like spacious air-conditioned classrooms, modern equipment, auditorium, cafeteria, beauty shop, surau, library and free parking. A free shuttle bus service is also available from selected points in Petaling Jaya to Bukit Jelutong.
This was followed by speeches by Patrick Soo, General Manager of Education & Business Development and Melissa Chen. Patrick said that graduates of EWI enjoyed a distinct advantage upon graduation. This is because EWI Academy, as a member of the EIG group, provides its graduates with many career and business opportunities as they can choose to work in its Leonard Drake and Aster Spring beauty centres as a professional therapist, become its Aster Spring franchisee or Dermalogica dealers, or join EWI Academy as a tutor.
In her speech Melissa congratulated the graduates and emphasized the professional education system and expertise of EWI Academy in providing the best and finest skincare, beauty and cosmetology education delivering very high passing rate year after year. She added that graduates of EWI Academy are always in high demand because of the excellent training and education they received and are now doing very well in the beauty industry.
Adrienne Hughes encouraged the graduands to never stop learning and to pursue the post-graduate CIDESCO course. She then shared her experience on how she had overcome constraints to become a professional therapist and CIDESCO examiner, as well as managing a successful beauty school and product distribution company in Norway.
Melissa then presented the Best Student Award for years 2000 C 2006 to Jim Hee Choy Fong, Mellicent On Ling Fong, Ivy Wong Lai Fong, Leow Wei Shin, Chong Choy Hoon, Lim Ying Hui and Nicole Lim Siew Tee.
The highlight of the event was the scroll presentation. As the graduands went up on stage to receive their scrolls from Melissa and Adrienne, they were sparkling with smiles and jubilation. Pride and joy could be seen in the faces of their parents, family members and loved ones. It was indeed an emotional and proud moment for both graduands and their loved ones with cameras clicking away like a Hollywood red carpet event.
The 1st EWI Academy Graduation Ceremony was truly a memorable and joyous occasion that will be remembered by all. Congratulations to all EWI Academy graduands. |
